Policy & Commitment
Banpu is committed to becoming a data-driven organization by accelerating the adoption of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize efficiency and foster innovation across all business processes. To uphold this commitment, the Company has established an enterprise-wide digital strategy and governance framework that aligns digital investments, oversight, and performance management with corporate strategic priorities and long-term enterprise value creation. Banpu upholds the responsible, ethical, and secure use of AI, guided by our AI Policy, which safeguards data privacy, ensures transparency and accountability, and supports compliance with applicable laws and global standards as digital and AI capabilities are scaled across the organization.
Management Approach
Digital transformation is governed through an enterprise‑wide framework covering digital strategy, governance, investment management, and performance monitoring. Digital initiatives are prioritized based on strategic relevance, expected business value, risk and compliance considerations, and resource optimization. Performance and benefit realization are monitored regularly, while digital risks and technology‑related financial implications are integrated into broader enterprise risk management processes.
The Company has established the Group Digital Steering Committee to oversee digital initiatives throughout their lifecycle, from planning and approval to performance monitoring and benefit realization. This structure ensures transparency, disciplined capital allocation, and measurable value creation. Banpu continues to modernize our core technology infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, and operational resilience. Cloud-based platforms, automation, and data analytics solutions are progressively deployed to optimize key business processes and enhance data availability for decision‑making.
Recognizing that people are central to successful digital transformation, the Company invests in building digital capabilities across all functions and levels. Digital literacy, upskilling, and hands‑on learning programs equip employees to apply digital tools, data analytics, and AI-enabled applications in their daily work, empowering them to drive process improvement, contribute to innovation at scale, and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement.
Artificial Intelligence Governance
Banpu is committed to the responsible development, deployment, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), ensuring that AI technologies are leveraged transparently, ethically, and securely. In 2024, we announced our AI Policy, establishing 4 foundational principles: (1) transparency, ensuring individuals are informed when interacting with AI systems; (2) continuous risk management, with AI adoption governed through the enterprise risk management process under the Risk Management Committee; (3) human oversight, requiring committee verification of AI usage outcomes to prevent unethical or biased distortions; and (4) data privacy protection, mandating appropriate safeguards throughout AI development, acquisition, and utilization.
The Artificial Intelligence Governance Committee serves as the dedicated governance body overseeing AI initiatives across the Group, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and adherence to ethical and regulatory standards, with regular updates to the Board of Directors. The Company is also considering the adoption of ISO 42001:2023 AI Management System (AIMS) framework to underpin our AI governance and data governance with globally recognized best practices.
AI adoption and data-driven decision-making are recognized as emerging risks, particularly given the competitive disadvantages posed by rapid AI advancements. Our mitigation measures include aligning AI governance with corporate governance principles, strengthening data governance, enhancing cybersecurity against AI-related threats, monitoring AI-related regulations, and promoting enterprise-wide AI risk awareness.
To build organizational capability, the Company launched a quarterly AI awareness program via e-newsletters, keeping employees informed about AI developments, best practices, emerging trends, and cyber threats. The program reinforces responsible behavior and equips employees to recognize and respond to AI-related risks, helping minimize the likelihood of security incidents.
